DUBAI (Reuters) – Wizz Air canceled all flights to Tel Aviv on Friday and Saturday and joined other airlines to avoid Israel due to escalating conflicts.

Flights to Tel Aviv from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Larnaca in Cyprus and Varna in Bulgaria were canceled on Friday, the Wizz Air website revealed.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has warned airlines to monitor mounting tensions in Israel, including exchanges of rocket fire and air strikes. "The situation in the region is still a major concern for commercial aviation," said a bulletin to the airlines on Wednesday.

The Emirates airline flydubai should operate three out of four scheduled flights from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Friday and two out of four scheduled flights on Saturday, the website showed.

An airline spokeswoman said fewer flights would be operated due to a drop in demand.

Other airlines, including British Airways and American Airlines (NASDAQ :), canceled flights to Tel Aviv earlier this week.

Palestinian militants have repeatedly shelled the Tel Aviv area during the hostilities that broke out on Monday, raised security concerns about Ben Gurion Airport, Israel's main airport, and induced some airlines to divert flights to Ramon Airport, some 200 km south. near the city of Eilat on the Red Sea.
