With graphene making a name for itself as an increasingly popular material for pretty much everything, it's not surprising that the graphene-infused Gamma jacket was such a huge hit at Kickstarter. The first product launched globally by Hong Kong-based Wear Graphene, which has been on the market since 2004, has grossed $ 1.45 million as of now – 290 times its target of $ 5,024.
Positioned as the “ultimate all-climate jacket”, the Gamma has a single layer of graphene, a nano-lattice material that is one atom thick and coveted for its durability over diamonds. Some experts claim it can even stop a bullet if a second layer is added. Graphene is not only the strongest, thinnest and most flexible material in the world, but also known for its thermoregulatory properties. This means that it can keep you warm and cool in the cold in the hot months. It also distributes heat evenly across your body in direct response to temperature. At least on paper, Gamma sounds like the perfect active clothing in extreme weather, whether high or low.
In addition to the benefits of graphene, Gamma also includes built-in heaters that you can turn on with any USB power bank stored in the inside pocket (10 pockets total). Three adjustable heat settings ensure that you never get too hot when you warm up. Depending on the selected temperature and battery capacity of your power source, you can expect between four and 40 operating hours on a single charge. Unlike most jackets, you don't have to worry about piling layers upon layers of sweatshirts and jackets to maintain a comfortable temperature. Weighing just over a pound, you can use it for walking, running, and other outdoor activities without limiting your ability to move your arms freely. Waterproof and snow-sure, rainy days no longer interfere with your fitness plans.
Wear Graphene makes a strong case for its latest innovation. At a time when healthcare is paramount, the company sweetens the pot by offering protection from UV rays, insects, harmful bacteria, and even knives. You can reserve one or more jackets for yourself on Kickstarter starting at $ 295. That might sound like a lot, but it's a great value considering how much value has been pushed into the gamma. Compared to brands like North Face and Nike, this really is no competition. Let's just hope Wear Graphene delivers on its estimated shipping date of July 2021. However, given its long history of making graphene-based clothing, there are good reasons to believe that it will.
