When it comes to social media, the main reason it's used the most is for entertainment and the temporary escape from reality. Try gamification on your Instagram account to take advantage of this audience behavior. Engaging your community in a competition is an effective way to build your market and brand message.

Once you have an idea of what type of competition you want to run, the next step is to actually run the competition. Running a contest on Instagram includes:
1. Tell me what you want, what you really, really want: Set your goals.
Set your goals and know what to expect from the competition. Would you like to get more followers? Create brand awareness or brand loyalty? Would you like a specific number of mentions or a specific number of user submitted content? The more specific you are with your goals, the more likely you will see positive results.
2. Bam! Hashtag it on.
Create a new hashtag for your competition or use one that is also used by one of your competitors or a popular national brand. See what competitions your competitors are currently running to get an idea of what will resonate with your desired audience. Check out other Instagram contests to get a feel for the latest trends.
3. Seniors with unicycles? Define your market / audience.
Tap your demographics to get a better idea of who is likely to be in your contest and if Instagram is really the right social platform for your contest. Ninety percent of those who use this platform are under 35 years of age. Most users are between 25 and 34 years old, followed by those aged 18 to 24. Further define your target audience so that you have a better idea of what type of competition you want to present.

4. More cowbell! Come up with a topic that works for you.
Whether seasonal, current or company-specific, you have a clear topic for your competition.
5. Give it to me, baby – this is your price.
You may be able to get away with "bragging rights" in some competitions, but you need something more substantial to encourage significant participation. Prizes can come from your product inventory or be a little more attention grabbing, like concert tickets, gift cards, or a trip. Whatever the price, clearly state it in advance and use it to promote your competition.
6. First stop, Instagram. Next world domination.
Decide if you want to limit your competition to Instagram or include other social platforms. If Instagram isn't your most popular platform, running a parallel competition on other platforms can have the added benefit of promoting your Instagram account and attracting more followers.
7. No ball game in the house! Establish the basic rules.
An effective Instagram competition requires clear ground rules. Post the rules to avoid confusion or potential problems in selecting winners. You want to determine:
A clear start and end date Eligibility requirements, including any age requirements How many winners do you plan, whether or not to announce the winner, or simply indicate that a winner has been selected (which can be a good idea if you want to allow entrants under 18) Prize or prizes to be awarded Requirements for participation
8. What should we call this thing? Title of your competition.
Keep your title simple and describe what the competition is about, e.g. B. "Holiday Photo Contest". If you want to hashtag it, check on a website like www.hashatit.com that your favorite hashtag is available.

9. Shout it from the rooftops! Promote your competition.
Find out about your competition by posting on your Instagram account, as well as your other social accounts, website and blog. Make the announcement post visually appealing as Instagram is a visual social platform and this attracts the browsers sorting their latest posts. Promote your competition further with:
Your email newsletterA well-crafted press releasePersonalized email messagesA mention in your regular ads or in-store ads if your ads include a stationary Quick Response (QA) code so that mobile users can access it instantly
10. Come on, don't stop here! Follow up.
Announce the winner and promote their winning entry with a post on Instagram. If it's just a "Like to Win" contest, you can still highlight the winner in a post. Send thank you emails to everyone who entered or send a thank you on your Instagram account to everyone who took the time to take part in your competition.
