(Reuters) – Social media company Reddit had problems on its website on Saturday, according to outage monitoring website Downdetector.com.

Customers reported problems signing up and sending messages on their website. The outage affected regions such as New York, Boston and Washington in the US and Toronto in Canada. This can be seen from a failure map on the Down Detector website. https: // https: //

It was not immediately known what was causing the interference. Reddit didn't immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Reddit has come to the fore after a social media chat room on its "Wallstreetbets" platform sparked what is known as a "Reddit rally" that helped drive a barrage of retail money into stocks like GameStop Corp. (NYSE :), burning hedge funds that had bet against the company and messed up the broader market. WallStreetBets has around 6 million members.
