Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Trump administration will broadly accept the Democrats' proposed language for coronavirus testing in stimulus talks and potentially remove a major barrier to a comprehensive deal.
During an interview on Thursday morning on CNBC's Squawk Box, Mnuchin said, “If I speak to [house spokeswoman Nancy] Pelosi today, I will tell her that we won't let the testing problem get in the way, that we generally agree with her test language , subject to a few minor issues. This problem will be fixed. "
Pelosi has repeatedly said that any deal should have money for stepped up testing for the COVID-19 and that the test language provisions are controversial. But even if progress is made between Mnuchin and Pelosi, it remains unclear whether a pact would come about with the Senate, where Republicans want a much tighter approach and a much lower price.
