Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 80 points

Initial jobless claims below 1 million

Initial weekly jobless claims in the US fell to 963,000, according to the Department of Labor. That's below a Dow Jones estimate of 1.1 million. It was also the first time since March that unemployment claims were below 1 million. Thursday's data was the latest indication of an improvement in the labor market. Of course, investors have continued to keep an eye on Washington, where the country's top lawmakers continue to battle over a new coronavirus bailout package for American homes and businesses.
