Should You Lock A Mortgage Rate Today?

Major markets traded yesterday as they normally would have if mortgage rates were higher. But those rates actually dropped many times over. So don't trust the markets as reliable indicators!

Stimulus conversations stay in front and in the center. These will be continued between the Finance Minister and the House Speaker. But the Senate majority whip, John Thune, has publicly said that, according to the Washington Post, it would be difficult to get 13 Senate Republicans (the number it takes to pass a bill, assuming all Democrats support it) to vote for the currently proposed deal.

If the talks fall apart, mortgage rates could fall. But if they go forward and become law, then perhaps they might rise significantly.

In the meantime, investors must worry about rising COVID-19 infection rates and rising death rates in America and Western Europe. However, they still show no concern. But if they take off their happy blinkers, rates could have yet another reason to fall.

You can literally save thousands by comparing your mortgage or refinancing through multiple lenders. So don't cut your throat by simply taking one, no matter how well you know or how strongly it is recommended.

You need to find the best possible deal. And that can change from lender to lender and from day to day.

That advice is particularly important now. Some mortgage lenders have withdrawn certain products or changed their offerings in response to the pandemic. And you may have to shop around to find a good deal on a withdrawal refinance, investment property loan, jumbo loan, or bad credit rating.
