Amazon delivery may not be as exciting for you, but your cat is probably excited to bring a new box home. Amazon has officially made this feeling with new eco-friendly boxes that can be recycled into cat condos, forts, and even a putt-putt golf windmill. All of this is part of the company's “Less Packaging, More Smile” program to reduce carton consumption.

Amazon found that over the years it has reduced packaging weight by 33 percent, eliminated the equivalent of around 1.5 billion boxes, and reduced its carbon footprint. "The invention and innovation of new types of packaging is one of the many measures that we are taking as part of the climate protection promise – our commitment to become CO2-free by 2040 – zero years before the Paris Agreement," said Amazon Vice President Kim Houchens USA today.

Despite efforts, Amazon still shipped around 5 billion packages in 2018, out of a total of 165 billion in the U.S. Even though 92 percent of the cardboard boxes are recycled, this still means a lot of waste and forest destruction.
